Guiding Stars aims to steer consumers away from unhealthy foods and towards healthy and nutritious foods.

Empathize
To better understand potential users, user interviews were conducted and survey were sent out to Dietitians and shoppers. In addition to user research, competitor research was also conducted to understand indirect and direct competitors in nutrition app landscape.
Define
Using the note gathered research during research user personas were created. These personas formed the archetypes for what is believed to be our two primary users and their journey using our mobile app.
Ideate
A User flow was created to determine the user’s path to finding nutritious foods using the GuidingStars star system. Key information was repurposed from the GuidingStars website. A card sorting activity was conducted to with users to determine how they would group information.
Prototype
Wireframes were created focusing on the key features, barcode scanning and search. User were given simple task completion tests using the wireframes. Once it was established that users understood how the app functioned we moved on to high fidelity screens.
Test
The hi-fi screens were turned into a tap-able prototype on a mobile device. Users attempted to complete a series of tasks. Barcode scanning functionality was tested live using a real database.
